At Nordmørskonferansen 2026 Group Director of Market and Sustainability Siri Sande shared reflections on a topic that affects businesses across all industries:

What creates growth when the world becomes less predictable?

For decades, many of us became used to operating under remarkably stable conditions. Globalisation accelerated. Supply chains expanded. Transport became cheaper. Energy was relatively predictable. Markets opened.

We gradually started to believe that this was the normal state of affairs.

But what if it wasn’t?

One of the key messages from the presentation was that the rules of the game have changed.

Today’s businesses operate in a different reality, shaped by geopolitical tensions, energy uncertainty, shifting trade patterns, technological disruption and increasing pressure to adapt.

Uncertainty does not make growth impossible.

But it changes what creates growth.

For years, efficiency was the ultimate goal.

Today, resilience has become a competitive advantage.

The businesses that succeed will not necessarily be the biggest. They will be the ones that are able to adapt, collaborate, develop their people and respond when circumstances change.

Storvik’s own history reflects this shift.

SIRI SANDE NORDMØRSKONFERANSEN 2026

Established in 1913, the company has navigated two world wars, financial crises, technological revolutions and changing markets. From manufacturing agricultural tools to becoming an international supplier to the process industry, one thing has remained constant:

A willingness to change.

As Siri Sande put it during the conference:

We have never survived because we were the biggest. We have survived because we have been willing to change.

Another message resonated strongly with the audience:

I’m not primarily concerned about artificial intelligence. I’m more concerned about natural inertia.

Because history shows that change itself is rarely the greatest threat.

The greatest risk is failing to change when the world around us does.

For Nordmøre, a region built on industrial competence, entrepreneurship and family-owned businesses, this perspective matters.

We cannot wait for the old normal to return.

Instead, we must build organisations, cultures and communities that are prepared for a future where change is the norm.

The rules of the game have changed.

The question is not whether uncertainty will disappear.

The question is whether we are willing to adapt and build what is needed to thrive in the world as it is – not as it used to be.
