The first Innovation Week in Sunndal is drawing to a close after an eventful week centered on entrepreneurship, recruitment, technology and business development.

Innovation Week was organized by Aluminium Innovation Valley, a network that brings together companies across the aluminium value chain with a shared ambition to develop new solutions, share expertise and create business opportunities across traditional company boundaries.

A key objective of the network is to strengthen regional competitiveness through increased collaboration, innovation and project development. Through Aluminium Innovation Valley, participating companies work to identify and develop joint research and development (R&D) projects while building expertise and showcasing the region’s industrial strengths.

Technology development, circular economy, competence development and branding are key focus areas for the network. Innovation Week is one of the first tangible initiatives resulting from this collaboration and aims to strengthen the connections between industry, education and the workforce of the future.

Creative Solutions from Tomorrow’s Problem Solvers

One of the highlights of the week was the Innovation Camp for first-year students at Sunndal Upper Secondary School. The students were challenged to solve real-world issues presented by local businesses.

Storvik participated as both client and mentor for two student teams. Their assignment focused on smarter production processes, and within just two school days the students presented solutions for robotic repair of cathode boxes and a sensor-based system for predictive maintenance.

We are highly impressed by what the students were able to achieve in such a short period of time. Their engagement, creativity and ability to identify new opportunities demonstrate the importance of creating arenas where young people can work on real challenges from industry.

The ideas and suggestions presented during the Innovation Camp will be valuable input for our own innovation efforts going forward.

Meeting the Workforce of the Future

Storvik also participated in Science Day at the Newton Centre, where second- and third-year upper secondary students from Sunndal, Surnadal and Tingvoll had the opportunity to meet representatives from local industry and the public sector.

Mechanical Engineer Ole Christian Strømsvåg and Technician Sindre Tveitnes represented Storvik, showcasing some of the machines and solutions delivered by the company while also presenting career opportunities within the industry.

For Storvik, Science Day serves as an important recruitment arena and an opportunity to demonstrate how the subjects students learn in school are applied in real working life. The demand for skilled professionals remains high, and future value creation depends on more young people pursuing education and careers within technology, science and industry.

An Important Meeting Place for Regional Business

Innovation Week concluded with the Sunndal Conference, once again bringing together businesses, organizations and public sector representatives for a day of professional development and networking.

As one of the conference owners, we are pleased to see how the conference continues to grow as an important meeting place for the region. This year’s program featured inspiring presentations, relevant topics and valuable discussions about the opportunities and challenges facing businesses in the years ahead.

During the conference, the winners of the Innovation Camp were announced, along with the annual awards. Lise Stokke Hoseth received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Johansen Bakeri was awarded Storskrymten, and Jostein Trædal received the Fossekall Award. We congratulate all the winners. These recognitions are well deserved and highlight the strong commitment, innovation capacity and value creation taking place throughout our region.

A Strong Foundation for Future Initiatives

This year’s Innovation Week has demonstrated the value of bringing entrepreneurship, competence development, recruitment and industry together in a shared arena. Through collaboration between schools, businesses and public sector organizations, new relationships, ideas and opportunities are being created for the region.

We look forward to following the continued development of both Innovation Week and Aluminium Innovation Valley, and to meeting even more of tomorrow’s innovators and employees.
